A TRIBUTE TO CHADWICK BOSEMAN

I pay tribute to this young man Chadwick Boseman whose superhero role as T’Challa in the film Black Pather inspired me to view the film from a theological perspective and analyse its theological significance in understanding the Catholic Spirituality of veneration of saints through the lens of black spirituality. Having focused on the role played by Chadwick Boseman in the movie, I decided to do research from which I wrote my degree thesis with the title:

AN EXAMINATION OF THE FILM BLACK PANTHER AS A MEDIUM FOR UNDERSTANDING THE CATHOLIC SPIRITUALITY OF VENERATION OF BLACK SAINTS AT ST ANDREW KAGGWA COMMUNITY, VISTABELLA, TRINIDAD

At the end of it all, my research was a success. My findings revealed that though based on a fictional concept of Wakanda, Black Panther lent itself to many spiritual analogies which can broaden our view and connection of black Spirituality to Catholic Theology.   My Thesis was not only among the best that scored an A at the University of the West Indies in the year 2019, but also unearthed (for me as a foreigner) the hidden treasures of the social, cultural, historical and religious elements that reflect Trinidadian experience. Indeed for me it was an all in one Caribbean research project. I killed many birds with one stone. Rest in peace and long live Chadwick Boseman. Your name is monumental for not only people of African ancestry living in the Americas but also the entire black world. You are a celebration of black excellence. May the holy angels receive you in paradise.
